Aleksy Gayda

This month we cross the Irish sea to interview Aleksy Gayda.  We met his dad in Rhossy in early 2009 at the wave comp and were able to catch up with him and young Aleksy after their trip to Brandon Bay in Kerry.

Anyone else windsurf in the family?
My dad, sister and my mum whens it`s really hot and the conditions are good!
 
How did you take up windsurfing?
When I was four, I went down to prior sands and there was a little body board.  So my mum and dad bought me a wetsuit and took me out surfing.  Then when we got back from there, they bought me a mistral windglider and my dad tought me on that.

I have been windsurfing since i was 4, so that makes for 11 years

What Windsurfing move do you want to learn next?
I would love to leard a double, but i have to get more controle on my singles first.
 

 
How often do you sail and train?
I sail every time my dads off work when there is wind.  I go with my dads mates sometimes so i can get out quite a lot if I want.
 
Tell us about your kit...what size, shape, volumes, etc...
I am using Goya boards and sails.  I have got a 2008 5m wave ED, a 2009 4.7 and a 4.2 guru, a 2009 3.4m wave ED, and a 3m 2008 wave ED...oh and of course the little custom 2.5m from Rob Jones at the Kerry sail loft.  Boards...I have got a 105L X1 freestyle board, an 85L one, a 77L one, a 68L custom, and a 45L custom
 
What other training do you do (if any)?
I mountain bike, go running some times and also do some weights
 
Any other Sports Interests?
I like Surfing and BMXing

Most Memorable Watersports Moment?
The first time I sailed in proper waves at Brandon Bay...cross off Gowlon (hmmm...we like that too!...ed)
 
Most WORST Memorable Watersports Moment?
Got none
 
Thoughts on UK Windsurfing?
There is not much suppout on the UK scene and there is not enought of kids coming to the comptitions, but it is great fun sailing
with everyone.
 
Thoughts on World Windsurfing?
I don`t think there is much support unless you are Kauli, Koster or Campello.
 
What level would you like to be at in 10 years time?
I would like to be in the Top 15 in the would and love to be doing all the tricks.
 
If there was one thing you wanted changed tomorrow about Windsurfing, what would it be?
Everyone windsurfs and enjoys having fun...more accessible to everyone!

I help teach my sister and one off my freinds
 
What are your goals for the rest of 2009 and also for 2010?
To  win the 4 nations!
