Downings Round Up
posted on 21/07/2010
Round 3 of the Irish Windsurfing Slalom Series took place from 17-18th July 2010 at Downings, Co. Donegal.

With 99 competitors, it was the largest windsurfing event on the Irish Windsurfing calendar so far this year, and with the wind having filled in nicely to 20-25 knots, the racing promised to be excellent.
Race Coordinator Nick Fletcher set a 5 buoy downwind course out into the Bay for the Gold Fleet, with long stretches between each turn, a wide start line and plenty of space for racers to accelerate to maximum speed on all point of the course.
The Silver fleet sailed a shortened Gold Fleet course on day 1, but were well challenged in the very broad reaches to the finish line.
Downings is renowned for its ability to cater for all abilities and age groups, and the action in close to the shore was also very competitive, with the Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 fleets all pushing for position!
MauiSails / RRD / bigsurf.ie team rider Pearse Geaney (IR100) took 5 out of 8 race wins to seal the Gold Fleet Overall win, while Peter Stewart took the overall win in the Silver Fleet. Full results from the event available on the Irish Slalom Series website HERE.
